Autumn In Full Swing
Football season is well underway, a familiar cool brisk air kisses the wind and leaves brushed with the colors of burnt oranges, fiery reds, ambers and mustard yellows dot the landscape like confetti. Yes, it’s apparent, autumn is here… and that’s a good thing! Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the foliage, tailgating parties and that pretty golden glow emanating from an evening sun. However, most importantly, I love fall fashion! So, with the season of harvest upon us, I thought it would be the perfect time to make my very first post on my brand new blog!
And what may the topic of choice be for this very first post you ask? Fashion of course! Fall fashion. Leather jackets, sleek trench coats, chunky sweaters and tailored blazers layered to perfection is a look that I’m all about! It’s always interesting to see what kind of new twists and takes on classic pieces designers will come up with season after season. Now it is true that designers have already doled out their looks for fall 2014 (actually way, way back in January of this year) so technically speaking, according to the fashion world, I’m already behind…blah-blah-blah. But this isn’t the fashion world, this is real life! So, in the spirit of fall, I’d like to dedicate this post to my fashion faves for menswear fall/winter 2014. Oh, and one more thing…welcome! 🙂
Before we begin…
Over the years I have developed one key rule when it comes to viewing runway looks: Always try to look at the outfits on the runway as separates, not as a whole outfit. Granted, sometimes you can’t help but to view the outfit as a whole (like suits) or sometimes the whole look really is fantastic. Remember, designers are creative types and the runway serves as their artistic outlet. This means they are going for a “look” or are telling a “story” or whatever it is and so what comes down the runway may be a wee bit…overwhelming to the average untrained fashion eyeball. When that happens, you may actually miss an article of clothing that truly is fantastic and wearable. It’s just that you can’t see it underneath all the “creativeness” of the designer. Case in point, have a look below:
What do these two pictures have in common? Both gentlemen have on the SAME jacket. On the left, a look from Salvatore Ferragomo’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection and on the right is Mr. Ryan Gosling at a red carpet event. Now, mind you, I don’t particularly find anything wrong with the Farragamo look as a whole ensemble, but I’m willing to bet that some gents might find this look a bit much to pull off and not notice that the pieces are great individually (yes, you can tone down those pants…I know what you’re thinking.)
Now…on to the show.
