Ah, do you remember the days where you could just simply turn on the radio and then proceed to listen to music all day long (as you went about doing whatever it was for that day) because every song played was pretty much a hit? Remember getting all excited and giddy with anticipation when you bought a brand new CD… errr… cassette tape… errr… well, album of your favorite artist and then completely wore it out because EVERY single song was amazing and you didn’t have to skip or fast forward or rewind? Sigh. I do. Although I was but a wee little bow tie (in fashionable diapers of course!), I still recall dancing my way through every single song off of Janet Jackson’s “Control” and “Rhythm Nation 1814” albums. Yes, my bow ties, those were the days when all the songs on one album were… good! The music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and my personal favorite, the early 90’s, are top choice on my playlists because the music from those eras were so memorable. In fact, I still listen to songs from those decades now (Chaka Khan!). Sadly, this… um… cannot be said for the music filling our eardrums today, which… brings us to the 57th Annual Grammy Awards 2015 🙂
The Grammy Awards, music’s biggest night was supposed to be filled with todays hottest music superstars, amazingly talented performances and recognizing the best that music has to offer. Instead, I was left with a lot of hoopla, much touted and over hyped performances that proved to be underwhelming (Hi Kanye… and Madonna) and awards given to artists I’ve never even heard of before. All in all, it was just a pot of mediocre blahness, of sorts. *STOP* Now, I already know what some of you bow ties are going to ask me/or say:
“But Mr. James, didn’t you see Beyoncé’s amazing performance at the end of the show?!?”
Answer: THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF ALL TIME! (This my friends is when somebody takes you to church. Enough. Said.). But, wait! Before every member of the BeyHive kidnaps me and ties me to a stake to be burned to death, I will say that Ms. Bey looked very pretty in her all white gown with her golden locks. See? All better now.
Speaking of fashion, there was certainly a lot of it going around at the awards show wouldn’t you say? Although, the music may have been mediocre at best, luckily for us, the fashion was not! And unlike it’s other stuffy siblings (The Golden Globes and the SAG Awards), the Grammy is young, hip, cool, urban, cutting edge and the quintessential “popular” kid of the award shows. Surprisingly, however, although there were some very…uh… creative outfit choices, most of the big name music stars kept it rather… dare I say… classy, for the Grammys anyway. So, which music superstars are much better at getting dressed than they are talented musicians, singers, and songwriters? Below are my best dressed men (and some women) for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Enjoy!
First up is none other than Mr. Pharrell Williams! Winning the award for most innovative and creative fashion ensemble, Mr. Williams looks fresh, modern, hip and oh soo cool in this “short suit” from his own line in collaboration with Adidas. But that’s not all folks. Mr. Williams suit has the ability to do magic right before your very eyeballs! That’s right, his normally soft grey suit turns a bright white if you take his picture using flash photography (it also glows in the dark). Innovative. You can tell Mr. Williams spent some time thinking about this one and I for one am very happy that he finally ditched that silly big freakin’ hat he used to love as it made him look like a… never mind (Google it). Be sure to click pictures for larger image!
Next up and in keeping with the gray trend is Mr. Chrissy Teigen himself looking razor sharp and sophisticatedly suave in this handsome gray suit and classic white shirt.
Still riding the gray trend is ex -Jonas Brothers member, Nick Jonas. The “Jealous” crooner changes it up a bit in this flattering checker board like gray suit with a modern splash of color to add interest. Mr. Jonas finishes off the look with a classic white shirt and some “fresh to death” pure white sneakers. I wonder if he kept them that clean all night?
Dierks Bentley. Admittedly, I have no clue who he is (and it totally doesn’t matter when you look this good… think he’s a country western singer?) is looking debonair and refined at the 2015 Grammy Awards. A+ Mr. Bentley! Whoever you are.
A lot of artists at the Grammy’s can thank this gentleman for giving them mega smash hits all over the world! Mr. Ne-Yo looks sleek and polished in this dapper deep hunter green suit in which he wisely ditches the classic white shirt for a more complimentary black shirt and hat. If Mr. Ne-Yo’s look was a song, it would be a number one hit!
Also going against the gray trend and continuing this great fashion streak he’s got going on is none other than Mr. Common, who managed not only to upstage his fellow music colleagues at the awards show, but also at the Pre-Grammy parties. If this continues, Mr. Common may well be on track to Fashion Icon Status! Black on black on black… on black. Try to pull that one off!
Wearing Navy almost from head to toe is Mr. Aloe Blacc. Mr. Blacc is looking exquisite in a finely tailored suit, but what sets this suit apart from the rest are those dapper shoes and bow tie. Dandy!
Does Mr. Usher hit all the suave notes in his bluish/gray suit? I think so! Extra points for those stylish shoes.
Did you know that E! mega host Mr. Ryan Seacrest had a fashion line? Now you do! And it’s called Distinction. I don’t know about you but I think Mr. Seacrest is looking extra distinct in this flattering navy blue double-breasted tuxedo jacket. Judging from this look, I’m very interested to see just what Mr. Seacrest’s fashion story is. Join me at (http://ryanseacrestdistinction.com/) and find out!
And finally, we have Mr. Jesse McCartney in a gorgeous forest green velvet suit. You can’t get more decadent than that my bow ties!
And now for the ladies:
Ms. Ciara, like Mr. Common, completely killed it at both the pre-Grammy parties and the red carpet. Werk Ms. Ciara!
Ms. Taylor Swift did not perform at the Grammys (due to her hectic and busy rehearsal schedule for her upcoming tour), but Ms. Swift did not disappoint in this show-stopping number… a performance in and of itself!
Ms. Gwen Stefani is gradually making her way back into the music scene and certainly helping her get there is this gorgeous Versace Atelier jumpsuit! Fab all around Ms. Stefani.
Fashion chameleon Nicki Minaj has transformed her look from a once cartoonish like style to a sophisticated and elegant glamour goddess. However, that doesn’t mean she forgot how to bring the sexy…which she does so wonderfully here. Kudos Ms. Minaj!
Whew! Iggy Azalea is Fancy in this fabulous blue Armani Prive gown…except for the hair. Ugh! So close.
And finally….Mrs. Kanye West did not make my cut for best dressed, but her outfit was the talk of the awards show nonetheless (well, in addition to her husband Kanye acting like… well… her husband Kanye. SMH.). What do we think bow ties? Oh…I will say this: Hair and make-up? FLAWLESS!
